The Day of the Wave is an inspiring and touching story about two survivors.
Ben and Izzy are both survivors of a disastrous Tsunami that hit Thailand. They lost not only each other but also people dear to them. That tragic event changed their lives and also their selves forever. Izzy is now living and working in London. But even far away from beaches and waves she still can’t forget. She dreaded the ocean just like every nightmares. Ben on the other hand spend his time traveling, until he decided to go back in Thailand and revived his uncle diving business. He surrounds himself with people who survived the incident. People who understand him without him telling his part of the tragedy.
The Day of the Wave is quite different from other Becky Wick’s novel that I have read. When I signed up for the tour, I expected another light, romantic, and feel good read like those books from Startruck series. The Day of the Wave though has romance is anything but light. It is a story of survival, not just Ben and Izzy’s but also those who are part of the tragedy. Like the locals who are now rebuilding their lives, and their place. It’s a huge step for them — starting all over again.
Ben and Izzy are both strong characters. All the pain and heartache they go through makes them not just survivor or witnesses, they both learned something from it. They become stronger and more mature. Especially Ben who put himself for others, helping the other survivors to rebuild their lives.
Becky Wicks’ description of Thailand is both beautiful and tragic. It’s so easy to get lost in the beautiful scenery and culture of Thailand and feel the lost when the wave hit part of it.
The Day of the Wave tugged some emotional strings inside me. Ben and Isla’s story was sensitively and realistically written. It’s beautiful, touching, and uplifting.

I can’t even imaging going through something like that, and I have no idea whether I’d be more like Ben or Izzy if I did. I’m thinking probably Izzy, I’d likely want to stay well away from the ocean. This one is new to me, so thanks for sharing your thoughts!
