Celebrating Debutantes 2017: Kick-Off!

Hey everyone! I am super thrilled to announced that Celebrating Debutantes blog event is back. And this year we have one massive event for all of you.

To those who are not aware what Celebrating Debutantes is all about, this blog event is where we features here at Blackplume and Fragments of Life new authors and their debut novels. Last year event was a huge success. So Precious and I decided to have a run again, but instead of splitting the event into two parts we are doing one huge event instead.

We’ve lined up lots of features for everyone starting today, June 1st, 2017 to September 2017. Yes, you read it right! The event will run for more the three months! Which means more new authors and books to discover, and lots of interesting and exciting features for everyone. And of course tons of giveaways too.

We have many talented new authors on board this year with their fresh debut novels and we are really excited for everyone. We hope that this event will be a perfect venue for readers to find new literary discovery, and for new authors to showcase not only their first published work but also share a little about themselves to readers. Because who doesn’t want to get to know more about the genius behind the favorite book we love to read? I don’t about you, but for me, there’s a thrill in discovering great new authors for the very first time. It’s like finding a hidden gem and sharing it to fellow readers which gives me excitement.

In this years event, we will be featuring diverse set of debut young adult, new adult and middle grade novels — from fantasy, science-fiction, contemporary, romance, lgbt, mystery, thriller, retelling, historical, and many more. You will definitely find your new favorite from our list. So, without further ado, here’s our debutantes this year.

Celebrating Debutantes 2016: The Distance To Home by Jenn Bishop (Movie Cast and Giveaway)

Celebrating Debutantes 2016 Second Wave

I’m super thrilled to have author Jenn Bishop here on the blog today as part of Celebrating Debutantes 2016 event. Jenn will be sharing to us her casting pick for her debut middle grade novel The Distance to Home.

To know more about Jenn Bishop and The Distance to Home, check the author’s bio and book’s description that follows after the guest post, as well as links where to find Jenn and where to buy copies of the book.

Also, don’t forget to check the giveaway at the bottom of this post for a chance to win a signed copy of the book from Jenn.

Here’s Jenn with her casting pick for The Distance to Home

While the odds are that my debut middle grade novel, The Distance To Home, will probably not be made into a movie anytime soon, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t spend a bit of time here and there fantasizing about it. It’s most writers’ dreams to see something they created in their head up on the big screen. So, if it ever does come to pass, here’s my ideal casting. (Also, these people are not allowed to grow up because that would ruin everything!)

Maisie Williams

Quinnen

I’m going to cheat a little here, since this actress is now too old to play Quinnen, but when I was first drafting TDTH, I always had Maisie Williams in my head as I imagined Quinnen. I love her spunk and intensity. (Quinnen is a little less murdery than Arya Stark — juuust a little.)

Maude Apatow

Haley

I think Maude Apatow would make a great Haley.

Gaten Matarazzo

Casey

Like many other kidlit authors, I completely devoured Stranger Things when it appeared on Netflix and from the first instant Gaten Matarazzo appeared on screen I knew he would make the perfect Casey.

Tristan Wilds

Hector

This was a hard one, mostly because my image of Hector in my mind is based more on athletes I’m familiar with than actors. But I think Tristan Wilds comes closest.

EVERWOOD Image #EW04-51-13A-1-4 Pictured: Chris Pratt as Bright Abbott Photo Credit: © The WB/Lance Steadler

Brandon

So, in truth I kind of want to go back in time and have Chris Pratt from his Everwood days play Brandon.

Ansel Elgort

But if a time machine is off the table, I think Ansel Elgort for Brandon could do a pretty good job.

Olivia Colman

Mom

Somehow Mom was the hardest for me to cast! In the end, I settled on Olivia Colman.

Peter Krause

Dad

Peter Krause. Done!

Ellar Coltrane

Zack

Ellar Coltrane would make such a good Zack.

Thank you so much Jenn for sharing to us your casting pick for The Distance to Home. Those brilliant actors/actresses makes me more excited to meet Quinnen and the rest of the characters. I love Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones series and I can imagine her on a different role. I think she is sporty enough to be Quinnen. She is really a brilliant young actress.

The Distance To HomeTitle: The Distance to Home
Author: Jenn Bishop

Last summer, Quinnen was the star pitcher of her baseball team, the Panthers. They’re headed for the championship, and her loudest supporter at every game was her best friend and older sister, Haley.

This summer, everything is different. Haley’s death, at the end of last summer, has left Quinnen and her parents reeling. Without Haley in the stands, Quinnen doesn’t want to play baseball. It seems like nothing can fill the Haley-sized hole in her world. The one glimmer of happiness comes from the Bandits, the local minor-league baseball team. For the first time, Quinnen and her family are hosting one of the players for the season. Without Haley, Quinnen’s not sure it will be any fun, but soon she befriends a few players. With their help, can she make peace with the past and return to the pitcher’s mound?
