In My Mailbox: Fictions & Nonfictions

For this month last In My Mailbox post I’m presenting both fictions and non-fictions books I acquired lately. Most of these books I bought from local bookstores, some I ordered from book depository before holidays but came late like Shatter Me & the Soul Screamers omnibus. There is also a book I won from giveaway, A Little Wanting Song. This book sent by Jayne Fordham of The Australian Bookshelf. I actually won a $15 worth of book(s) from her last giveaway & I decided to get this other book of Cat Crowley. I’ve been meaning to read Cat Crowley’s other works after reading Graffiti Moon last year so I decided to check her books and this one got my interest. I know I will love it because there is music  in it. The Duff is one of the book that included in my to-buy list that I keep on forgetting to buy until I saw a shiny hardbound copy that I can’t resist to add in my cart.

Dan Millman’s Way of the Peaceful Warrior is one of my favorite book and the movie and is also as good so when I saw from the book sale this follow up, Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior I automatically bought it. The copy is fairly bitten and with dedications and notes written inside but as long as the pages are complete and readable I don’t care. The Lucado Inspirational Reader came from book sneeze for review. I honestly didn’t remember that I requested this one, I’m expecting something from Maxwell so I guess my mind is somewhere when I made a request. 🙂

Other than these books I also bought some Kindle books from amazon. Mostly are the new releases that are not available in local book stores and books that I need for the challenges that I joined to. What about the rest of you, what books did you get in your mailbox?

In My Mailbox: January Releases

For this week In My Mailbox post I decided to feature only the books that are recently released. For the fast few days or weeks I’ve been hunting copies of books that will fit for reading challenges that I joined to such as Debut Author Reading Challenge and Contemporary Reading Challenge which all requires books that were released this year. Here are the books I got that can be considered for the reading challenges:

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

Thanks to Louisse for pointing me where to buy a signed copy of John Green‘s latest novel, The Fault In Our Stars. I’ve been waiting for this book since I found out about it. I almost pre-ordered a copy from Book Depository but when I found out that local book stores will be selling a signed edition, I decided to just wait till it become available locally. Which is a right choice since there are some issues that not all pre-ordered books  that were delivered are signed, and waiting orders from book depository will take longer not to mention that there’s no guarantee that the book will arrived in perfect condition due to postage handling . My copy has a purple signature in it, no yeti or hanklerfish doodles. I’m not sure if there were copies with John Green‘s doodles that reached here in Manila. But if I saw one I’ll definitely buy another copy. I want one with the yeti doodle.

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
The Gathering Storm by Robin Bridges
Cinder (Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer

I’m also surprised to see these three books above available from local book stores which are all perfectly fit for Debut Reading Challenge. I didn’t expect to see these books to be available here this soon since it is not always that our local book stores get copies of recently released books. I guess our local book stores are improving. I really don’t know what to expect from all these books but I’m excited to read Cinder because of Fiktshun‘s high rating review for this one.

I’ll be posting the other books I acquired in my next IMM post. Some of those books I acquired earlier than these books but since they don’t fit under new releases I decided to separate them. What about the rest of you, what books did you get this week?

In My Mailbox: Signed Edition

Happy New Year!!! First day of 2012 and it’s Sunday which also means it’s time to post our weekly meme, In My Mailbox hosted by  the lovely Kristi from The Story Siren. This week I’ll be posting two special books I got during the past few days.

The hardbound copy of Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick came from Iz. This is the one and only book I received as Christmas present this holiday season. One of the first prints copies released by the publisher that includes the never-before-seen scene of the first time Patch and Nora met from Patch’s point of view. The Name of the Star is a signed ARC paperback copy sent by Sarah of Feeling Fictional. I won the book from her spooktacular giveaway last November and the book arrives just before Christmas. Thank you Iz and Sarah for adding two new lovely books in my collection.

How about you? What books did you get in your mailbox this week? Happy New Year to everyone!!!

Books I Received:

Two lovely books arrived in my mailbox this week from friends. Dead Rules by Randy Russell came from Rachel of Fiktshun. Isn’t the book lovely? When I first saw the  art cover online I know I want to own a copy of this book.  So when Rachel informed me that she’ll send me a copy I almost dance with joy =)  The cover is really gorgeous and based from Rachel’s review I know the inside is also beautiful as the cover.

The Castle in the Pyrenees by Jostein Gaarder came from Tze-Wen of chinoiseries. I won this book from the literary giveaway hop she held on her site.

A HUGE Thank You to Rachel and Tze-Wen for these lovely books.

Books I Bought:

I finally completed the Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater.  I got my copy of the final book, Forever when it was released last July 12 but I can’t read it without reading the first two books. So I finally bought Shiver and Linger this week.  I just want to start the series soon before I lend my copy of Forever to a friend.

Carrie Jones’ Need series is another set I bought together with Linger and Shiver. I got the first three books (Need, Captivate & Entice) in hardbound format. I’m supposed to get Wildefire that night but I can’t find any copy then I saw these lovely covers on shelf. I just can’t leave the book store without them on hand.

These are the books I bought from local bookstore and book depository on sale. After more than a month of waiting some of the books I ordered online finally arrived.

  • Have A Little Faith by Mitch Albom
  • Heist Society by Ally Carter
  • Flawless by Sara Shepard
  • The Enchanted Quest by Frewin Jones
  • The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti
  • The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

With all these lovely books I got this week plus the existing books in my TBR it is  more hard to decide what to pick up first.

I received three books this week from fellow book bloggers. Calum of The Secret Writer sent me a copy of The Debutante by Kathleen Tessaro. And Lucy of Moonlight Gleam sent Magic Bites & Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews as a gift of RAK for June.

My impulsive self attacked last night, while checking books from amazon I bought the kindle e-books of the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent. I got upto the fourth book and the two novellas: My Soul To Lose, My Soul To Take, My Soul To Save, Reaper, My Soul To Keep, and My Soul To Steal.  I’ve been hunting for a copy of these books for the past few days but I can’t really get any from local book stores. I just can’t wait too long if I order these books from book depository so I decided to get first the e-books. I already finished reading the prequel novella (My Soul To Lose) last night and I plan to start the first book (My Soul To Take) later.

I failed badly! I’m supposed to be in a book buying ban this month since my TBR pile is really getting higher and higher.  I thought I’m getting just one or two books but look what I accumulate?! I bought all these from local bookstores in the past few days. All are fictions except for What On Earth Have I Done? which was misplaced in a YA shelves where I found it and since I love reading Fulghum books I decided to bought it too together with the other books.

At the bottom of the pile is The Glass Of Time by Michael Cox, then What On Earth Have I Done? by Robert Fulghum. Next up is Fairest by  Gail Carson Levine author of Ella Enchanted.

Firebirds Soaring: An Anthology of Original Speculative Fiction and The Body Finder  by Kimberly Derting were two books I bought yesterday together with Passion by Lauren Kate in National Book Store Glorietta 5. Since I already got my own copy of Passion this new hardbound copy will be for giveaway. I personally went to Lauren Kate’s book signing event yesterday and I have this one signed by the author so watch out for the upcoming giveaway here in the next few days.

Firegirl by Tony Abbott actually caught my eye because of its title. It reminds me of Katniss character in The Hunger Games which is tag as “The Girl On Fire”. Obviously this book is not related to Katniss nor The Hunger Games and not even the same genre but I decided to buy it all the same. Finally, at the top of the pile is Ellen Hopkins’ Glass, book two of Crank which I got on sale.

Also, my pre-ordered hardbound copy of Forever arrived on the day of its released with a free shirt included. The shirt is too big for me so I’m thinking of giving it to someone. I also got few ebooks for review which I plan to read first to finish all my  reviews for submission. I’m also waiting for nine more books coming from book depository.
